Step
Cut away the damaged area first so you can get a grip on the tile.  Work in a knife and slice the edges free.
Trim the appropiate edges from a new tile, guiding the cuts with a metal straightedge.  Check for a snug fit.
Clear away all old adhesive or staples from furring strips and the other tiles, then apply fresh adhesive.
The biggest challenge you may face when replacing a damaged ceiling tile is finding one that matches.  If you're lucky, whoever installed the ceiling tile will have saved a few extra tiles for such an occasion.

The trick to replacing a tile is cutting off the top lip of the grooved edge of the new tile.  Once you've trimmed off the top lip of the groove, you can place the tongue edge in the grooves of the adjacent tile and pivot the patch tile into place.
Step
Fit the tongue edge in first, then press the tile into position and hold for a few minutes until the adhesive grabs.
